The release of Ganesh's 25th film as leading man, Buguri, today, is special not just for him, but for its director MD Sridhar as well. The filmmaker, who spent two years planning and replanning what his next venture after Bulbul should be, eventually decided to collaborate with Ganesh for a third time, given that their previous two films — Chellata and Krishna — did well at the box office. It's a realistic story, the first half of which is colourful and youthful, as it unfolds during the hero's college years. It was shot extensively in Mangaluru and Manipal to capture the vibrant student culture there. In the second half, Ganesh gets a more mature look. Major portions of this were shot in Malaysia.

Ganesh has two love interests in the film — Richa Panai and Erica Fernandes. The underlying message, though, is that when a person is in college, he/she tends to want to find love. But soon enough they realize that professional success is a must too in life and love takes a backseat. Once they are well set in a job, though, they tend to look back at their first love and wonder whether they should have let it go or not.

The music by Tollywood composer Mickey J Meyer is noteworthy, especially the songs Arivaagide, sung by Karthik, and Alubandaru by Sonu Nigam. Srinagara Kitty plays an important role in the film. There is also a very poignant message delivered by Darshan.
